Filipino American History Month is celebrated in October, and in 2024 the theme is "Struggle, Resistance, Solidarity, and Resilience.”

What better way to honor the struggle, resistance, solidarity and resilience of the Filipino people than with the opening of the Philippine-American War (1899-1902) Exhibit aboard Olympia at the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia.

While the Philippine-American War is a rarely discussed story of the complicated history between the United States and the Filipino people, we must remember the past in order to learn from it and move forward.

The exhibit is now open at the Independence Seaport Museum aboard Olympia, which became famous as the flagship of Commodore George Dewey during the Battle of Manila Bay in the Spanish–American War in 1898, with thanks to all who made this a reality after years in the making. This exhibit is presented by the Independence Seaport Museum in partnership with the Filipino Executive Council of Greater Philadelphia, Inc.
